Poems about burnout

With Burnout

Sadness
It crept up on me
my career dark side
slowly consuming
like a cordyceps
growing from within
and leaving
a lifeless shell

Yet in I go
Each day a nail
in the casket
that used to be
my life's vision
my passion
now gone

After burnout

Renew
If only I had known
in the depths of work meltdown
that the solutions were so near
a simple grasp away

If only I had known
that "I" was still "in there"
waiting to be set free
longing to be seen

I could have moved ahead
so much sooner
so much faster
avoiding years of pain

Now liberated from torture
I live each day anew
Thankful that I can be me
Work....... at last - as me.

The Burnout Geese poem

Begin the burnout journey
When career light has been dimming
and the treadmill just won't stop
your energy now draining
with frustrations fit to pop

The dragging of your body
each day it’s into work
your steps no longer steady
instead just thin ice lurks

Then one day as you’re sliding
that ice - it shows some cracks
you see them ever clearly
alongside those  fading tracks

You deny it could be burnout
hours lost in escape dreams
you know there’s something wrong
as there's creaks at all the seams

It does not have to be so
leave the ice and find our rock
we know you'll find your footing
when you join our friendly flock

But if you’re truly wanting
all that suffering to cease
just make that one decision
and fly to Burnout Geese

Why poems?

Writing can facilitate both the initial acceptance of burnout and contribute to the healing.

Writing poems or keeping a journal is not for everyone but can be a surprisingly effective step in any life situation where things need to change. Poetry writing can act as a catharsis or outlet as well as highlighting unhelpful thought processes.

This is not to suggest that proper support can be bypassed in the resolution of burnout but it is thought and, is our experience -  that writing can be an invaluable self help step .

We would love to put your poem on this page (anonymous is fine)  about burnout and the recovery process ( reading before and after burnout poems  can be helpful in seeing that burnout can be turned around).

Please allow your creative side to emerge at whatever phase of burnout you are in right now and submit your poem today.
