The burnout expert FAQs
What is a burnout expert?
A burnout expert is someone who has worked professionally with burnout sufferers over three decades or more. People who had burnout in the past few years and who then say they can help you out of burnout - are NOT experts. Their personal experience is of course valid but....they have a client base of one ( plus a handful more perhaps) and will by definition not be well versed in the sheer range of burnout presentations and complex patterns... whereas a burnout expert has seen thousands. Coaches similarly are rarely burnout experts.

What can a burnout expert do for me?
In a nutshell - make the process of facing up to burnout easier and make the reversal of burnout more structured/supported and ensure that all stages of the "exit from burnout" journey are properly addressed so that burnout can not return.
How long will my burnout take to shift?
No one can tell you this - however there are some guide times. Burnout that has not been there for more than a year may be well on the way to reversal in 12 weeks. More severe burnout that has been ignored for years is likely to take longer than this for a full resolution. It also depends whether return to work support or career change/modification support is needed. All of those is likely to take a full year.
Why do I keep getting burnout?
Primarily this is because each time you get it the measures being used to contain it are not sufficiently in depth ( ie more like sticking plasters) or perhaps any tiny improvement is so welcome that it is easy for the burnout to go temporarily underground - only to resume at a later date. This results i "oscillating" burnout where the person then takes no action at all because some weeks are better than others.

Where do I begin?

I dread returning to work what do I do?
For those who need to take time out or sick leave to recover from burnout it is invariably daunting to think about returning to the workstyle/content/pace/load that contributed to the burnout arising.
At the end of our burnout programme ( designed to reverse burnout) we can begin to address the issue of when and if to return to work and how. This is done via our "return to work" programme. Not everyone needs this but when there are concerns over returning to burnoutogenic working conditions or habits - either this programme and or the "maintain and sustain" programme |
